Lewis Jukes is a junior barrister at Magdalen Chambers, specialising in civil law with a particular focus on housing, property, local government, and planning law. Since joining Magdalen Chambers in October 2023, following a specialist Civil Pupillage under the supervision of Russell James and Charles Cooper, Lewis has developed a thriving and diverse practice. Lewis is regularly instructed by landlords, tenants, and local authorities, and accepts both private and legal aid work. Lewis can take instructions on a public/direct access basis.

Lewis undertakes fast, intermediate, and multi-track trials and is frequently instructed to draft pleadings and provide written opinions. Lewis regularly appears in the County Court, First Tier Tribunal, Employment Tribunal and Magistrates Court. He had substantial experience before pupillage; having conducted over 700 cases as a County Court Advocate.

Housing Law – Landlord & Tenant

Lewis represents both landlords and tenants in complex housing disputes, including discrimination claims under the Equality Act 2010 and public law arguments.

He has a keen interest in disrepair claims, regularly acting for local councils and social housing providers. He regularly provides strategic advice, drafts pleadings and undertakes hearings throughout the entire litigation process, including allocation hearings and trials.

He recently secured over £42,000 in damages for a tenant in a disrepair case against a social landlord.
