‘Phil is an experienced legal and healthcare professional with a multidisciplinary background spanning clinical practice, higher education, mediation and regulatory adjudication. Phil come to law after a career as a nurse in the NHS where he developed expertise across critical and acute physical care areas as well as psychological therapies before moving into academic roles teaching across a broad range of psychosocial and health and social care subjects, health law and professional regulation. He holds a master’s degree in law, which was awarded for his work on the ‘Rights and responsibilities of regulated expert clinical witness’. This, alongside his diploma in forensic medical sciences and clinical experience, enables Phil to engage with complex clinical and scientific evidence with ease.
Phil builds on his insights from working as a fitness to practise chair to inform his legal work, while his experience as a workplace mediator and his knowledge of the trade union and public service sectors provides him with unique insights into employment law issues. He has a strong commitment to fairness, accountability, and access to justice. Having advised clients through Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) Phil is keen to extend pro-bono portfolio.
Phil looks forward to developing a broad civil practice with a particular interest in housing, employment, professional discipline and regulation, clinical negligence and personal injury law.’
